FREESIAS

The Freesia is a corm (bulbo-tuber) and is indigenous to South Africa.  Their flowers have a unique, strong scent.  Plant your freesias out in sunny areas and their stems will remain short.  Plant them out in partial shade, and their stems will stretch, sometimes long enough to require support.  Protection from the heat will extend the life of freesias.  These plants look wonderful planted as either single colours or in a mix.  You’ll need to plant them out in lean, light, friable (easily crumbled) soil which is well draining.  If necessary, add sand to the soil to improve drainage.  Plant the corms at a depth of about 6cm.
