PLECTRANTHUS – INDIGENOUS SHADE LOVERS

Shaded parts of the garden always seem to be problematic in terms of finding suitable plants to make an acceptable show. Our local Plectranthus species along with a host of different hybrids go a long way in satisfying this need. Many grow best in light to heavy shade and can withstand the drip associated with growing underneath tree canopies. Most bloom in late summer and autumn in shades of white, mauve and purple. A few have pink flowers too. Some are low groundcovers whilst others grow into taller shrubs that work as background or screen plants. Plectranthus ‘Mona Lavender’ is a hybrid with exceptional garden performance with masses of mauve-purple blooms from spring to autumn. Compact bushes to 60 cm tall grow in sun or shade.
