CLIVIAS – CHAMPION INDIGENOUS PLANTS

Clivia miniata along with various other species of these spectacular indigenous lilies have been hybridised extensively during the course of the last 40 to 50 years. The result is thousands of hybrids with spectacular blooms that are very different to the original species found growing wild in local forests. Clivias bloom in spring and many shows and events are held around the country to acknowledge the progress made in their breeding. Champion plants are traded for high prices amongst enthusiasts.

For the layman clivia grower the ordinary orange and yellow flowering plants are still hugely rewarding plants in the shaded parts of the garden. Just be sure to alert and on the constant look out fro signs of lily borer damaging the plants.
